The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, challenging the election victory of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Monday Okpebholo.
In a landmark ruling, the three-member tribunal unanimously declared that PDP and Ighodalo failed to prove that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) violated the Electoral Act during the September 21, 2024, governorship election.
The tribunal further ruled that the petitioners did not provide sufficient evidence to support their claims that Okpebholo and the APC did not secure the majority of lawful votes.
This decision cements Okpebholo’s victory as the duly elected governor of Edo State, dealing a major blow to the PDP’s bid to overturn the election results.
